The video, from Ohio rapper YelloPain, has been praised by Bun B, Don Cannon and others.

A rap video detailing the importance of voting and how the three branches of government function has gone viral.

Last month, rapper YelloPain released the music video for his song “My Vote Don’t Count,” which finds the Ohio artist explaining how the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government work. The video is just now going viral though thanks to artists, actresses and others sharing it on social media.

In an interview with Dayton.com, YelloPain spoke on the song’s importance, and how it was inspired by his cousin, Desiree Tims. (Tims is a political candidate (Democrat) running for Ohio’s District 10 House of Representatives Seat against Eric Moyer. The seat is currently held by U.S. Rep. Mike Turner.)

“Metaphorically, Desiree took me to school. She taught me what I should have learned in school, what they didn’t teach me,” the rapper said. “I wanted to get people in my same position to vote.”

“People who are in politics don’t know how to speak the language of people who don’t understand,” he added. “The reason this video is so powerful is because I speak both languages.”
